What type of research assignment is it your are carrying out

  • Is it an argumentative assignment where you will present a persuasive information as evidence supporting your research paper thesis?
  • Is it an analysis assignment where explore a subject from a number of perspectives providing support or non-supporting evidence for each position?

What is the structure of your paper

  • How long is the paper expected to be?
  • Do you have to write an executive summary or abstract?
  • Which Citation Style are you expected to use?

Source Requirements

  • Scholarly peer-reviewed articles?
  • Recommended Journals or Databases?
  • Internet sources?
  • Government Documents?

Did your Professor provide you with topic suggestion?

  • Is your Professor letting select your own topic?
    • Make sure to discuss it with them before starting on your research.
