CMNS 123 - Analysis & Reporting for Information Technology

Step 2 -Research Journal

Start a Research Journal that records information about the articles, books, websites and other information sources you discover.  Think of it as your Research Data Management system.

Things to record in your Research Journal:

  • Name of Journal or Book
  • Names of the database where you discovered the information
  • Author(s)
  • Publication information such as date, volume/issue, publisher name, place of publication
  • URLs
    • Persistent Links, permalinks, etc.
    • E-Mail yourself the article if the Journal or Database has this feature.
  • doi (Digital Object Identifier).
  • Keywords and Keywords Phrase you used to conduct your searches.

You'll need this information to improve your searches, and once you finish your paper you'll need them to build your Reference List and Citations.
