Step 4 - Why is Conducting Background Research So Important?

Who? What? When? Why? and How?

Conducting background research provides you with critical information about the topic you are researching. Including:


  1. Highlighting studies and reports conducted in the past; 
  2. Important historical events relating to the topic; and
  3. Helping to define or expand the boundaries of your research.

Identifying the Following


  •  Key concepts;
  •  Key people;
  •  Key places;
  •  Key Timelines; 
  •  Key things that have taken place regarding this research topic,
  •  The correct spelling of keywords;
  •   Variant spelling of keywords i.e., British vs American
