Research Data Management

This guide is to provide introductory information to OC faculty and students in support of their research data management (RDM) practice.

Tri- agency policies

Tri-agency

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) (the agencies) are federal granting agencies that promote and support research, research training, knowledge transfer and innovation within Canada.

Policy affecting postsecondary

Through an open letter to all post-secondary institutions and research hospitals, the Tri-agency announced the launch of the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy. The agencies will take a phased, incremental approach to policy implementation, the first requirement being the development of institutional RDM strategy.

Requirement of institutional RDM strategy

The Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy requires by March 1, 2023, that each postsecondary institution and research hospital eligible to administer funds from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) or Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) create and share, with the agencies and on its website, an institutional research data management (RDM) strategy that describes how the institution will provide its researchers with an environment that enables and supports RDM.
