Land Acknowledge

My name is Gilbert Bede. I am a Librarian at Okanagan College. I am descended from European Settlers of Hungarian, German, and Dutch stock, who emigrated from Eastern Europe - Hungary in 1927 - 1936 (parental line) and in 1908 from Russia (material line).

In both cases, my family was seeking a better life and to avoid the coming First and Second World Wars.  Upon their arrival in Canada, settling in Revelstoke and Vernon.

“I would like to begin this meeting by respectfully recognizing that Okanagan College is located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwepemc, Syilx, Sinixt, and Ktunaxa people.”
