MLA Citation Style

Course packs

MLA does not give specific instructions on how to cite custom course packs.  It is always best to check with your instructor. In the example below, including Course Pack at the end of the citation indicates the type of work. The examples provided are based on SFU's recommendation to treat a course pack as an anthology when reprinting articles, chapters etc. The instructor would be the editor/compiler with this approach.

Course Pack:

Author. "Article, Story, or Poem Title." Course Number: Title of Course Pack, editor, Publisher/Institution, Year of Publication, page range. Medium of Publication.

Brennan, Patricia. "Pulmonary Case Studies." NURS 3130: Supplementary Readings, edited by Lucinda Robertson, Okanagan College, 2017, pp. 17-25. Course Pack.

Class Handout:

Author/Instructor's Last Name, First Name. "Title of Handout." Course Number: Course Title, editor, Publisher, Campus, Date. Class Handout.

Fowles, Jib. "Advertisement's Fifteen Basic Appeals." English 100: Custom Course Materials, edited by Dr. Shona Harrison, Okanagan College, 21 Sept. 2019, pp. 2-11. Class Handout.

Course Pack, Journal Article Reprinted in

Author's Last Name, First Name. "Title of Article." Title of Course Pack, edited by Instructor's First Name Last Name, Okanagan College, Publication Date, pp. xx-xx. Originally published in Journal Title, vol. #, no. #, publication date, pp. #-#. Course Pack.

Johnson, Victor. "A Labour of Love?: Mothers and Emotion Work." NURS 3130: Supplementary Readings, edited by Lucinda Robertson, Okanagan College, 2016, pp. 30-44. Originally published in Journal of Midwifery, vol. 17, no. 10, 2009, pp. 636-640. Course Pack.

Cannon, Dolores. "Accessing Theta."  PSYC 241: Abnormal Psychology, Okanagan College, Kelowna, 28 Oct. 2019. Class Lecture.
