DSCI 490 Capstone Fall 2024

This Library Research Guide is designed to assist student in the DCSI 490 in using the library to access primary, secondary and tertiary information for their course assignments.

What is a Tertiary Information Source

These sources index, abstract, organize, compile, or digest other sources. Some reference materials and textbooks are considered tertiary sources whose chief purpose is to list, summarize or repackage ideas or other information. Tertiary sources are usually not credited to a particular author. Content produced by GenAI (ChatGPT) will probably be considered to be in this category because it is 'synthetic' and based on information gleaned from other sources.

Examples include dictionaries/encyclopedias (may also be secondary), almanacs, fact books, Wikipedia, bibliographies (may also be secondary), directories, guidebooks, manuals, handbooks, and textbooks (may be secondary), indexing and abstracting sources.
