Class FC - A Classification for Canadian History 4th Edition

Class FC: A Classification for Canadian History 4th edition was published in 2023.

Long ago the Canadian history section of the Library of Congress F schedule was recognized as being far too limited to meet the needs of Canadian scholarly libraries. As a result, Class FC: A Classification for Canadian History was implemented.

Historically the Class FC did not describe Indigenous materials in a terminology preferred by First Nation, Inuit and Métis Nation communities in Canada, in 2019, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) began a review of subject headings and classification of Indigenous materials.

The First Nation, Inuit and Métis Nation communities directly contributed to the project making essential recommendations regarding the updating of the vocabulary used in Class FC 4th edition to describe Indigenous materials. .
