Bracketed In-Text Citation Placement
In-text citations appear sequentially, beginning with [1], within the body of the text.
Where in the Sentence Does My Bracketed In-Text Citation Go?
If you name your source(s) in a given sentence, a bracketed citation follows immediately after mentioning the source. For example, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated in Parliament that his government supports investment in Artificial Intelligence [1].
Bracketed In-Text Citations can also be treated as source names themselves. For example, The statement was supported by [2], [3], and [4].
If the sentence ends with a quotation, "end the quote, then place the citation between the bracketed citation marks and the punctuation, like this" [6].
