My Kingdom for the Right Keywords

Keywords and phrases are how we search in OCtopuse-journals, and research databases.

The best starting point to identify your keywords and phrases is to deconstruct the research topics and/or your thesis statement. For example,

What impact did George Ryga have on the Canadian literary and theatrical communities?

.

Keywords  Alternative Keywords

Impact*; Influen*,

"George Ryga"  "Ryga, Goerge"

Literary

Theatrical

Where Do I Find These Alternative Keywords

They're everywhere:

  1. Your Assignment

  2. Textbooks

  3. Your Lectures and Lecture Notes

  4. Background Reference Sources

  5. OCtopus Detailed Record (Metadata)

  6. Books and E-Books check their works cited list, indexes, bibliography, etc.

  7. Journal Articles check for Keywords in the article, abstractworks cited, etc.

  8. Webpages - especially those from Universities and Colleges, Research Institutions, government websites, and subject-themed websites.

Don't Get the Rita Joe's Confused

Just a word of warning. Don't get George Ryga's Rita Joe confused with Rita Joe the Indigenous poet and author.
