Appointments
To make your visit as smooth as possible, please schedule your visit at least 24 hours in advance by emailing liblocal@okanagan.bc.ca. You are still free to walk in to visit the Local Interest Collection, but in the case that someone else made an appointment, you will have to wait or reschedule. Making an appointment helps the library because staff can be prepared to help you when you arrive, and it helps you because we can help you determine your needs and help you prepare your research before you visit. Appointments can be up to two hours long, but if no one else needs the room you may stay longer. We ask that you finish using the room half an hour before the library closes to help closing staff.
If you are planning on using the microform reader and require assistance/instruction in its use, it is helpful to tell us in advance so a time can be scheduled for someone to help you out.
What to Bring
- Pencil/paper or an electronic device for note-taking
- Guest users: photo ID
- OC users: your 300 number
- Your research topic!
When you Arrive
When you enter the library, check in at the circulation desk (to the right of the main entrance). If it is your first time visiting, you will be asked to fill out and sign a brief form; on subsequent visits, you will only have to write in the date/time of your visit.
If you have a large bag or coat, this will be securely stored for you to keep both the collection and your possessions safe. A staff member will take you to the collection and unlock it for you.
In the Local Interest Collection
See the "Rules and Guidelines" sections for the expected conduct while in the Local Interest Collection.
When you Leave
Return to the circulation desk when you are finished your research to check out and retrieve any belongings that were stored for you. This allows staff to re-lock the room.
