WET 219 - Applied Water Law

My Kingdom for the Right Keywords

Keywords and phrases are how we search in OCtopus and e-journals, and research databases.

The best starting point is to deconstruct the research topics that you have been given.

  1. The Government of BC had an agreement with the Wet'suwet'en Nation Band to allow a pipeline to pass through the Nation. However, the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs opposed this pipeline and refused access. From a legal standpoint, examine the history of the negotiations, and discuss the legality (from the perspective of Canadian Law) of this matter. Discuss what must be changed to prevent future conflicts.

  1. The Government of BC has implemented the Water Sustainability Act. What is it? What changes has it made? Explore four main changes this Act has brought in.

  1. Analyze the BC Drinking Water Protection Act, and explore the responsibilities of municipalities and their employees under the Act.

  1. Compare and contrast environmental policies and procedures in Canada and either the USA or Sweden. You will concentrate on one major theme (choose one): water, air, or habitat and species protection Hint - Sweden is a member of the European Union (EU).
