Hic Sunt Dracones Latin for 'Here are Dragons'

A phrase used by medieval cartographers when denoting unknown territories on maps as a warning to mariners.

Today, people navigating the vast quantities of information on the Internet would also be advised to heed a similar warning.

One of the best skills that you can develop is the ability to assess the credibility of information that you discover on the Internet.

Misinformation

Misinformation is false or inaccurate information—getting the facts wrong.

Disinformation

Disinformation is false information which is deliberately intended to mislead—intentionally misstating the facts.

Deninialism

Denialism describes a refusal of certain persons to change their view of a situation even when confronted by overwhelming evidence to the contrary.  Classic examples are:

Indian Residential Residential Schools in Canada (Royal Society of Canada).

ExxonMobil's own scientist provided the smoking gun for Climate Change (Science).

Dr. Andrew Wakefield and the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine controversy ultimately leading to Dr. Andrew Wakefield losing his license to practice medicine in the United Kingdom..
