Data Liberation Initiative

The Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) is a partnership between post-secondary institutions and Statistics Canada with the goal of improving access to data resources.

This user-centric program builds statistical capacity and leadership through microdata access training and support for an ever-expanding research data collection including: Public Use Microdata Files (PUMFs), Postal code files, Social Policy Simulation Database and Model (SPSD/M), and hospitalization data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).

Access is facilitated through OC Library DLI Representative. the provided for students and faculty to PUMFS and Masterfiles' "0" frequency codebooks. All data files, documentation, and reports that are part of the DLI collection are available through an Electronic File Transfer (EFT) server.

Public User Microdata File (PUMF)

Public use microdata files (PUMFs) contain anonymized, non-aggregated data. Using statistical software, the end user can group and manipulate data variables in these files to suit data and research requirements.
