Canadian National Health Expenditure Trends

In 2024, health care spending in Canada was estimated to be $372 billion. 

  • This represents 12.4 percent of Canada's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). 

  • Total health care spending in Canada increased by 5.7 percent.

  • Hospital expenditures increased by 6.1 percent.

  • Drug expenditures increased by 3.8 percent.

  • Private-sector health expenditures increased by 6.1 percent. 

Among the 38 member countries in the OECD in 2023, Canada was ranked 11th in per capita spending at $7,013 USD..
