APA 7th Who, When, What, Where
APA 7 Where is the Information From.
Title Information
Italicize titles of journals, magazines and newspapers. Do not italicize the titles of articles. Capitalize only the first letter of the first word of the article title. If there is a colon in the article title, also capitalize the first letter of the first word after the colon.
Volume Issue Information
Include issue information as numbers in the case of our article; it is represented as 26(2), with Volume information coming first in italics and the Issue information in parenthetical brackets.
If this information is unavailable, skip it and move to the next part of the pattern. Keep the formatting for the parts of the pattern that you do have. For example, if you only have a volume number, it should be in italics; if you only have an issue number, it should be in (brackets).
doi or URL information
The DOI or URL is the final component of a reference list entry. Because so much scholarship is available and/or retrieved online, most reference list entries end with a DOI or a URL.
-
A DOI is a unique alphanumeric string that identifies content and provides a persistent link to its online location. DOIs can be found in database records and the reference lists of published works.
-
A URL specifies the location of digital information on the internet and can be found in the address bar of your internet browser. URLs in references should link directly to the cited work when possible.
In the case of our article, it does not have a DOI; you should use the Share>Create Link function.
When using URLs from a webpage, first check to see if they have a function to create a permanent URL, if they do not copy the URL from your browser address location.
APA 7th In-Text Citation
The in-text parenthetical citation is placed into the prose of your written assignment. There are two accepted in-text citation methods. Parenthetical versus Narrative.
Example of Parenthetical In-Text Citation for our article on Thalomid.
(Clarke et al., 2001)
When Directly Quoting, word-for-word, a section of a source add pagination information
Single Page
(Clarke et al., 2001, p.#) where # represents the page number in the source.
Page Range
(Clarke et al., 2001, pp. #-#) where the first # equals the start page number and the second # equals the end page number.
Example of Parenthetical In-Text Citation for our article on Thalomid.
Clarke et al. (2001) stated that the "sedative/hypnotic thalidomide was withdrawn from the worldwide market nearly 40 years ago because of its teratogenic and neurotoxic effects"
