Academic Writing

"Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers." - Isaac Asimov

Academic writing is your opportunity to show your professor what you know. It is the means by which you learn how to understand, apply, analyze, and evaluate information.  Writing empowers you to explore the symbiotic relationship between reading and thinking by requiring you to form an opinion, support it with what you've read, and organize your thoughts to communicate your new understanding.

As an academic writer, it is your responsibility to ensure that your reader has all the information necessary to understand your position.  You need to intentionally present this information in a way that facilitates comprehension by selecting relevant research and organizing it to guide your reader to your conclusion.

This guide provides resources on how to begin, develop, and improve your writing
and is intended to complement the guidance and instruction you receive from your professors.
