POLI 101 Introduction to Politics

Finding Information in The OC Library

The OC Library should be your starting point for locating information for your courses and assignments.

The Library has purchased and licensed various types of information resources that have to be accessed from the Library or Library Webpage in order to use them.

OCTOPUS is the main search engine of the Library. It is located at the top of the Library's main webpage. When using OCTOPUS from off-campus, at Hello Guest prompt enter MyOkanagan username (current OC student id number) and password.

Accessing the Library's Electronic Resources

The Library has an extensive collection of Research Databases, e-Journals, Ebooks and Streaming Videos that are ideally suited for use from off-campus.

The Tabs, located in section 2 Using the Library to Find Information, link you directly out to these resources.

OCTOPUS also facilitates searching for the majority of these types of resources.

To limit your OCTOPUS searches to these types of materials, use the Refine Results Limiters located on the left-hand side of your OCTOPUS search results.

The Library's Print Collection

Currently, access to the Library's print collection is closed.

However, the Library has implemented a new service called "Delivery on Demand" that allows you to access the Library's print collection.

Delivery on Demand is a pilot service offered by the Library to provide remote access to OC Library's print collections. Requests for print materials can be made online. Requests for scanning based on Fair Dealing or Access Copyright guidelines can be submitted by current OC students, faculty, and staff. Fair Dealing and Access Copyright generally permit sharing one chapter from a book, up to 20% of a book, or one article from a journal issue. Requests will normally be filled within seven days.
