Value of a Research Strategy

Creating a research strategy is always a good idea. It will help you:

  1. Focus on developing a good thesis statement;

  2. Develop, test and modify the effectiveness of your research strategy;

  3. Provide you with the ability to discuss your information needs with librarians and others who will help you in locating the information you need; 

  4. Start developing a list of keywords and keyword phrases to use in your search;

  5. Develop a plan to manage the information you discover and incorporate it into your assignment; and 

  6. Allowing you to effectively manage your time and produce a better quality research paper.

My Kingdom for the Right Keywords

They're everywhere:

  1. Your Lectures and Lecture Notes

  2. Background Reference Sources

  3. Textbook(s) 

  4. Journal Articles and their Reference Lists 

  5. Webpages - especially those from Universities and Colleges, Indigenous associations, etc. 

  6. In your Assignment 

Your Search Strategy will Change

Your search plan will change as do your research. 

  • You may not be able to locate sufficient information on a specific author

  • You may find that you have too much information

  • You may not be able to locate the specific type of information you're looking for

  • You need to be adaptable 

  • Refocus your research when needed 

  • Get in touch with me in a timely manner so I can assist you in locating the type of information you will need
