The Health Science Sector is One of the biggest and Most Active Proponents Of Open Access to Health Information

Since 2005, the U.S. based National Institutes of Health (NIH) on of the largest funders of research in the World  has implemented it's Public Access Policy that requires the final, published version of NIH-funded articles to be deposited into PubMed Central (PMC) where they can be access at no cost by users through the world.

In 2013, in the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) have adopted as similar policy to the NIH.  CIHR grant recipients are required to ensure that their peer-reviewed publications are freely accessible through the Publisher's website or through an online repository such as PMC or Europe PubMed Central  or the grantees institutional repository. For for example UBC's cIRcle system. Find addition information on Institutional Repositories in Canada.

Another good source of Canadian health information is the Canadian Institute of Heath and Information (CIHI). CIHI provides a broad array of publicly accessible information. However, some of their information requires user registration and the payment of fees.
