Water Legislation and Regulation in Canada

Provinces have primary jurisdiction over water resources as a result of their constitutional power to make laws governing natural resources, and their proprietary powers. The Federal government governs water concerning transboundary waters, navigation, fisheries, and international treaties, and also has proprietary powers over federally regulated lands (military reserves, national parks and historic sites, and First Nations Reserves).
