Meet Alfonso Rivera
Alfonso Rivera is a physical hydrogeologist by formal training. He graduated from the Paris School of Mines, France, in 1990 with a Doctorate in Quantitative Hydrogeology. He specializes in groundwater modeling, coupled hydro-mechanical and solute transport processes, groundwater exploration, and water resources management. He became the Chief Hydrogeologist of the Geological Survey of Canada in 1999 and retired in 2020.

Many of Canada's most sensitive ecosystems are dependent on groundwater and this book is a comprehensive assessment of Canada's groundwater resources. The text features the work of more than 40 noted groundwater scientists and was compiled and edited by Alfonso Rivera, Ph.D., the chief hydrogeologist for the Geological Survey of Canada. The book contains 16 detailed chapters and covers the basics of groundwater, groundwater-surface water interaction, sustainability, information on the different regions of Canada, and emerging issues and conclusions. There is also a glossary and references for researchers wanting more information.
