The Blue Marble with its Fluid and Atmospheric Envelopes

This version of the famous 'blue marble' image was created in 2002. This is one of the most detailed true-colour images of the Earth to date. It was created using a collection of satellite-based observations that scientists and image technicians 'stitched together' from observations of the land surface, oceans, sea ice, and clouds into a single seamless, true-colour composite image of our planet.

Much of the information contained in this image came from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard the Terra satellite

Ever since the first humans went into orbit and saw our planet from space, they have experienced intense emotional impact referred to as the "overview effect." Seeing the Earth against a background of the blackness of space has caused all who have enjoyed this experience to speak of how it has given them a greater appreciation of our planet and its fragility and resulted in a deeper connection to humanity as a whole.

Remote Sensing is used as a means to better understand and manage the water resources of the Earth. Including Canadian Water resources
