GRACE Sees Groundwater Losses Around the World

GRACE

GRACE, the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment, mission has flown twin spacecraft in tandem around Earth since March 17, 2002. Its mission is to investigate the Earth's water reservoirs, including those over land (including groundwater), sea, and ice. In addition, it monitors and investigates earthquakes and geological deformations. GRACE is a collaboration between NASA, the German Space Agency (DLR), the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, and the European Space Agency (ESA). GRACE was replaced by GRACE-FO in 2018, which in turn will be replaced by GRACE-C in 2028.
