GEOG 129 Human Geography: Resources, Development and Society - Winter 2024

Library Subject Guide for GEOG 129 Winter 2024

Evaluating Sources

Adapted from The CRAAP Test, developed by librarians at California State University, Chico

The 5 W and Chicago Citation Style

One benefit that you will achieve through learning the 5W i that by answering the 5W you are also developing most of the information you will need to create your Chicago Author-Date citations.

Methodology

One of the tools in helping you to evaluate peer-reviewed articles is to understand how they did their research. This is known as the research 'methodology'. All good-quality peer-reviewed articles will include information about their research methodology. Take the time to find it, review it, follow down any citations to sources they may have identified in their article; and check the discipline literature in the field to determine if it meets the accepted standard being used in the field.
