Incorporating images into your paper

  • The image should appear as soon as possible after the first text reference to it (3.8: Placement of Illustrations Relative to Text).
  • Below the image, the caption will begin with “Figure” or “Fig” followed by a number and period. When referring to figures in your text, use lower case – eg. figure 1 (3.7: Captions, Legends, Keys, and Labels)
  • Information below the image can consist of a word or two, incomplete sentences, several sentences or a combination.

Image Freely Available Online

Follow this example to cite an image that's available to anyone who searches the web with no login required.
