Course Resource Lists with Talis Aspire

Introduction to OC's Online Resource List Software

Add the Entire Resource List in Moodle

If your Moodle shell is not divided into sections by week or topic, or you would just prefer the entire resource list to appear at the top of the page in Moodle, you can embed the whole resource list instead.

  • In your Moodle course, make sure you turn editing on
  • Near the top of the page (above your week or topic sections), click on “Add an activity or resource”
  • In the pop-up window that appears, select “Course Resource List” with the Talis icon and click “Add”
  • Give the resource list section any name you want
  • Select for the list to display “Inline on a course page” so it can expand or collapse, as opposed to opening in a new window
  • Click “Link to resource list or section”
  • Click “start” for the authentication process to work
  • Type in a keyword to help you find the list related to your course, then click on the correct list and click save
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and from the dropdown box select “Announcements” to jump to
  • From there, you can navigate back to the main page of your Moodle course
  • Click on the title of the resource list to expand or collapse it

Add a Section of Your Resource List in Moodle

  • In your Moodle course, make sure you turn editing on
  • Scroll down to the week or topic section where you want to add a section of the online resource list, and click on “Add an activity or resource”
  • Click “start” for the authentication process to work
  • Type in a keyword to help you find the list related to your course, then click on the correct list
  • From the dropdown list, select the week or topic section that you want to add, then click save
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and from the dropdown box select jump to “announcements”
  • From there, you can navigate back to the main page of your Moodle course
  • Scroll down on the main page to the week that you just added the resource list to
  • Click on the title of the section to expand or collapse the resource list

Add or Edit Sections

If you only asked your liaison librarian for an empty shell, or if you want to make changes to how your resource list is organized, you can add new sections or edit existing sections in your resource list in Moodle.

  • In your Moodle course, make sure you turn editing on
  • Scroll down to the week or topic section that you want to add an online resource list to, and click on “Add an activity or resource”
  • Select “Course Resource List” with the Talis icon, and click “Add”
  • You can rename the resource list section if you want (or you can edit this later). We recommend that you select for the list to display “Inline on a course page” so it can expand or collapse, as opposed to opening in a new window. Then, click “Link to resource list or section”
  • Click “start” for the authentication process to work
  • Type in a key word to help you find the list related to your course, then click on the list
  • If the section that you want to add is not in the dropdown list, you need to add it first
  • Scroll down until you reach the point you want to add a section, and hover to click on the “add section” option. Make sure you are not embedding a section within a section
  • Name the section and click save
  • At the top of the page, click “Publish” to publish the new section you just added. Then, refresh your browser page
  • After you refresh your browser page, type in a key word to help you find the list again, then click on the list
  • Now you will see the section that was added in the dropdown list. Select it and click “save”
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and from the dropdown box select “Announcements” to jump to. From there, you can navigate back to the main page of your Moodle course
  • Scroll down on the main page to the week that you just added the resource list to. Click on the pencil to edit the name of the list section
  • Click on the title of the section to expand or collapse the resource list
