What Type of Tires Are Part of the Standard Package (OE) for a new Vehicle

Most new cars come with all-season tires as part of their standard package. All-season tires are versatile tires that provide 'good' performance in most conditions. They are known for having longer tread life and offer a very smooth ride with minimal road noise. They can be used in mild winter, but anything more than light snow may prove too much for all-season tires.

Tire Maintenance and Replacement Guidelines

Tires must meet the standards described in the Government of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Tires deteriorate with age, even when not in use.

Aged tires have reduced traction, are more prone to cracking and may fail unexpectedly.

Tires should not be older than 10 years.

Replace tires when

  • The tread is less than 1.5 millimetres deep or when the tread-wear indicators touches the road.

  • Replace tires with bumps, bulges, knots, exposed cords, or tread and sidewall cuts deep enough to expose cords.

  • Any tire on a vehicle must not be smaller than the manufacturer’s specified minimum size. Likewise, tires must not be so large that they touch the vehicle or affect its safe operation.

  • You should use similar tires on all four wheels of your vehicle.

  • It is recommended that your vehicle be equipped with four winter or all-weather tires with the same tread pattern to provide the best traction during the winter season.

  • If you live in northern Canada, you can legally use studded tires on your vehicle (check provincial regulations).

  • Scrap tires are a serious environmental concern. Proper maintenance will extend the life of a tire and delay its disposal.

  • Always maintain the right air pressure; inspect tires for wear; rotate tires regularly.

  • If you hit a pothole, curb, or other form of obstruction always check your tire(s) for damage. Including, checking your feont-end alignment, tire balance, and steering control.

Key features North American consumers looked for during their tire-purchasing process as of 2017

This 2017 survey asked consumers in the United States and Canada about the tire features they look for when tire shopping. According to the survey, 54 percent of respondents claimed that all-weather grip was the most sought-after feature when they purchased tires.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Tires

OEM tires (Original Equipment Manufacturer) are the tires that are specified by the vehicle manufacturer and are initially fitted to the vehicle when new.
